At the very least arrest and prosecute Deputy Peterson for dereliction of duty

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/di...rkJ?li=BBnbcA1

Disgraced Parkland deputy heard shots inside school building, told cops to stay away

Roundly vilified for not entering a Parkland high school during a mass shooting, Broward Deputy Scot Peterson insisted publicly that he believed that gunfire was happening outside on campus — not from inside the building.

But internal radio dispatches released by the sheriff's office Thursday show Peterson immediately fixated on Building 12 and even radioed that gunfire was happening “inside.”

And, just as school shooter Nikolas Cruz was fleeing the building after killing 17 people, Peterson warned his fellow officers to stay away — even as wounded students and staff lay inside.

“Do not approach the 12 or 1300 building, stay at least 500 feet away,” Peterson said over the radio, according to the records released Thursday.

They should be lowering the gun buying age and teaching gun safety/shooting skills instead of relying on dirt bags like this for protection!

When it comes to the Parkland, Florida, school shooting, it’s increasingly clear that apprehension played a huge role while bravery is facing rebuke. Two new reports are sickening. We’ve chronicled the deplorable actions of the initial responding officers whose inclination was to wait outside the school. Well, it got worse. News last night was that Broward Deputy Scot Peterson, the on-campus security guard, knew and informed other officers over the radio that gunfire was happening “inside” the building — despite his later insistence that he wasn’t sure whether shots were fired outside. “Do not approach the 12 or 1300 building, stay at least 500 feet away,” Peterson said over the radio. So he remained outside and instructed others to do likewise.
But then there was Sgt. Jeff Heinrich, an officer with the Coral Springs Police Department. He and his family are deeply involved with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. But even though the fate of his wife and son was unknown during the rampage, Sgt. Heinrich — who at the time of the shooting was off duty but happened to be on school property — nevertheless did what the other officers refused to do: He entered the school in an effort to engage the shooter.
This week we learned that Sgt. Heinrich’s impulse to selflessly and independently enter the danger zone was shared by Detectives Jeffrey Gilbert and Carl Schlosser. Both of them are Miramar Police Department SWAT members. Upon hearing news of an active shooter, the on-duty detectives reflexively made their way toward the high school. Unfortunately, their valor is being met with reprisal.
According to The Hill, Gilbert and Schlosser “have been suspended from duty over their decision to respond without permission to the shooting at a high school that killed 17 students and faculty last month. … Following their suspension, the two were ordered to turn in their SWAT-issued rifles, but they remain on active duty for other assignments, according to the newspaper.”
Police Benevolent Association President Jeff Marano responded: “While it may have been a violation of policy to not notify their supervisors that they were going there, their intentions were brave and heroic, I think.” Indeed.
Admittedly, the policy isn’t without merit. The Sun Sentinel recalls last year’s ordeal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in which “over 2,000 cops responded to the original report of gunfire and false reports of additional shots fired.” The Sentinel explains that a “crowd of arriving law enforcement can jam roads that ambulances need to use, overwhelm radios and in general, add to the confusion of the police response.”
Fair enough. But the Parkland ordeal is very upsetting for numerous reasons. Not only did authorities fail to heed dozens of warning signs well before the attack, but the response by Broward County sheriff’s deputies — rather, the nonresponse — created a dilemma. Yet the brave souls who were willing to engage the shooter are being punished for it.
At the very least, their supervisors could exercise some discretion — and some decency.

Surveillance Video in Parkland School Shooting Finally Released ...

    http://tribunist.com/news/surveillan...actions-video/

The finger-pointing in the wake of a high school shooting that left 17 dead began with a close examination of missed opportunities leading up to the incident. Then a Sheriff’s Deputy who worked at the school took center stage, as the world learned he stayed outside and didn’t confront the shooter. Now we have video of him during the shooting.

Deputy Scot Peterson was assigned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as their school resource officer. The Broward County Deputy resigned immediately after the shooting, a move many claimed was to ensure that he kept his pension. After news broke that he’d not engaged the shooter, he was sure to have been fired.

Now video has been released that shows Peterson standing outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while Nikolas Cruz was inside, killing students, faculty, and staff.

here's hoping Dep Peterson can muster up the courage to put his gun in his mouth and pull the trigger

Some officials wanted Stoneman Douglas suspect Nikolas Cruz committed in 2016 ...

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/18...d-in-2016.html

Some school counselors and officials were so concerned about the mental stability of Nikolas Cruz, accused in last month’s Florida school massacre, that they decided to have him forcibly committed more than a year before the shooting.

However, the recommendation was never acted upon.

Documents in the criminal case against Cruz showed that school officials at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and a sheriff's deputy recommended in September 2016 that Cruz be involuntarily committed for mental evaluation under Florida's Baker Act for at least three days, sources confirmed to Fox News on Sunday.

The documents, part of Cruz's criminal case in the shooting, showed that he had written the word "kill" in a notebook, told a classmate that he wanted to buy a gun and use it, and had cut his arm supposedly in anger because he had broken up with a girlfriend. He also told another student he had drunk gasoline and was throwing up. Calls had even been made to the FBI about the possibility of Cruz using a gun at school.

The documents, first revealed by The Associated Press, were provided by a psychological assessment service initiated by Cruz's mother called Henderson Behavioral Health. The documents showed a high school resource officer who was also a sheriff's deputy and two school counselors recommended in September 2016 that Cruz be committed for mental evaluation under Florida's Baker Act. That law allows for involuntary commitment for mental health examination for at least three days.

Such an involuntary commitment also would have been a high obstacle if not a complete barrier to legally obtaining a firearm, such as the AR-15 rifle used in the Stoneman Douglas massacre on Feb. 14, authorities said.

There is no evidence Cruz was ever committed. Coincidentally, the school resource officer who recommended that Cruz be "Baker Acted" was Scot Peterson — the same Broward Sheriff's Office deputy who resigned amid accusations he failed to respond to the shooting by staying outside the building where the killings occurred.
if the recommendation was made ... who squashed it?

Broward County Schools Sitting on $100M for School Safety…Since 2014?

JOHN PORTER WEDNESDAY MARCH 28 2018

It’s been a while since we’ve had a reason to be outraged at Broward County (see Video Shows Deputy Standing Outside During Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting and Hero Student Files Lawsuit Against Broward County Sheriff’s Office). Yet shockingly enough, there’s still always new reasons. At this point, there really shouldn’t be any other screw ups exposed that left 17 high school students killed.

    Then I see this tweet:

    https://twitter.com/PollackHunter/st...-since-2014%2F

“In 2014, Superintendent Runcie successfully convinced Broward residents to vote on $800 million in bonds for Broward County Public Schools to invest back into the schools. According to The Qualification Selection Evaluation Committee (QSEC), an anti-corruption measure, there should be a committee of 11 people, five of whom are members from the public, that would decide what companies were given lucrative contracts to manage that $800,000,000 in voter approved projects. Just a year later, Runcie, who was tasked with bringing transparency to the board, moved to bypass those anti-corruption measures by removing members of the public from voting on who received the contracts. School Board member Robin Bartleman opposed removing the public from the decisions saying, “It’s going to be an issue.” She went on to say, “Stuff like this snowballs. Things like this get out of control. I’ve seen it before.”

Robin Bartleman was right. Three years later, the program has been fraught with delays. Robert Runcie’s former special assistant revealed contracts were being awarded unfairly, and cost estimates for projects that are nowhere near completion are booming with as much as 57%. As part of the program, $104,325,821 was designated specifically for school safety. Of that money, only $4,673,508 (roughly 4.4%) has been spent over the past three years. If the school safety money continues to be doled out at the current rate of 1.46% spent per year, Broward Public Schools will not see the entirety of that safety money for another 68 years, or the year 2,086.”

This is the part where I really got stabby:

“It’s not just Broward. There are grants given to states and school districts throughout the country, but often it’s not spent on safety. The parents don’t realize this because they don’t read the 1,200-page reports that bury the information. Students are not safe.”

It’s not just their school district. It’s your’s too.

Now let’s play make-believe. Let’s say 200,000 people marched on Washington over the weekend looking for common sense, government incompetence reform. What if the speakers all took turns pointing how exactly the system failed these seventeen students. Instead of anti-NRA, anti-Rubio talking points written by the leftists who organized the march.

Granted, MSNBC and CNN wouldn’t have given them wall-to-wall coverage. But it still could have been a step toward fixing the actual problem.

Instead, the left blames the NRA and Republicans. Rather than who they should be blaming: local, state, and the federal government.
still waiting for the folks of Broward County to hang their Sheriff?

So sad, further proof the kids were sacrificed in the name of gun control. They keep saying they can’t afford an arm SRO or teacher training for CC!

Parkland victims sue, calling gun maker and seller complicit in massacre

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/br...523-story.html

he families of two victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting on Wednesday sued the maker and seller of the weapon used in the rampage, claiming they should be held partially responsible for what Nikolas Cruz did with it.

The parents of Jaime Guttenberg and Alex Schachter want a judge to clear the way for them to claim damages against American Outdoor Brands, formerly known as Smith & Wesson, and Sunrise Tactical Supply. The Coral Springs store is where Cruz purchased the AR-15-style weapon used in the Feb. 14 shooting spree.

Fred and Jennifer Guttenberg, and Max Schachter “seek to hold defendants legally responsible for their complicity in the entirely foreseeable, deadly use of the assault-style weapons that they place on the market,” according to the lawsuit, filed in Broward Circuit Court.

How the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting unfolded | Graphic
Before the lawsuit can go forward, their attorneys said, judges have to clarify that gun manufacturers and sellers can be sued by victims.

“A confusingly written Florida statute stands in the way,” the attorneys wrote. “If the defendants claim that [the law] entitles them to immunity from such claims, and the courts agree,” the victims will be forced to pay the gun maker’s and seller’s legal fees instead of recovering damages.

The 2001 law, Florida Statute 790.331, explicitly prohibits state, county and city government agencies from suing businesses over the legal manufacture and sale of weapons that are later used unlawfully. The law is silent on whether victims can sue on those grounds.

The same law allows governments and victims to sue over defects in the weapons, but “the potential of a firearm or ammunition to cause serious injury, damage, or death as a result of normal function does not constitute a defective condition of the product.”

The Guttenbergs and Schachter want a judge to either declare that the law does not block them from collecting damages — or to declare the law unconstitutional.

Cruz, 19, bought his Smith & Wesson M&P 15 .223 rifle legally a year before the shooting in Parkland.

Messages left for the attorney representing Sunrise Tactical Supply were not returned Wednesday. Attempts to reach American Outdoor Brands were unsuccessful.

The victims and their lawyers are planning a news conference Thursday in Miami to discuss the lawsuit.

A federal law passed in 2006 makes it more difficult to sue gun makers when criminals use the firearms they manufacture. The families of the victims of 2012’s Sandy Hook shooting are trying to sue Remington, maker of the AR-15 used by Adam Lanza to kill 20 students and six teachers in Newtown, Conn.

It wasn’t clear Wednesday whether that law would have an effect on a civil lawsuit in Florida.

So far, lawsuits have been filed against Cruz, the family that took him in after his mother’s death and the school resource officer who stayed outside during the shooting. Numerous family members have sent notices of intent to sue the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the School Board of Broward County.
watch some half-wit judge make this the precedent that is then used against every incident out there

When the leftards don't like a law, they claim it is either "obsolete" or "confusing" or "badly written" then use that as an excuse to ignore it. The Protection of Legal Commerce in Arms act should pretty much eliminate all these nuisance lawsuits, but that doesn't keep the leftards from trying to get an activist judge to toss it out. The irony is that whoever is dumb enough to believe the antigunners is the one who will likely take it in the shorts, having to pay the legal bills of the other party when they lose....
